Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) in Denver, CO

IUI Clinic Serving the Greater Denver Area

Intrauterine insemination (IUI), commonly referred to as artificial insemination, is a fertility treatment option that involves placing washed sperm directly into the uterus to increase the chances of fertilization. At CCRM Fertility of Denver, we offer state-of-the-art IUI treatments & compassionate expertise that are both customized to meet the individual needs of our patients.

Our IUI Process at CCRM Fertility of Denver

While IUI continues to be the gold standard of infertility treatment in the medical community, at CCRM Fertility of Denver, we understand that every patient is unique. That’s why we begin the IUI process with a comprehensive evaluation of both partners, including a thorough medical history, physical examination, and laboratory testing. Our experienced team of reproductive specialists will then collaborate with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and goals.

Before beginning IUI treatment, patients may undergo ovulation induction to stimulate the ovaries and increase the chances of successful fertilization. This may include taking oral medications or receiving injectable hormones, depending on your individual needs.

Once the ovaries are stimulated, we will monitor your cycle closely using ultrasound imaging and hormone testing. When the follicles have reached the appropriate size, we will administer a trigger shot of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to trigger ovulation.

Approximately 24-36 hours after receiving the hCG shot, you will return to our clinic for the IUI procedure. During the procedure, we will insert a thin catheter through the cervix and into the uterus, where washed sperm will be injected directly into the uterus. The procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes, and patients can return to normal activities immediately afterward.

Who are Ideal Candidates for Intrauterine Insemination?

Ideal candidates for intrauterine insemination include:

  • Couples who have been trying to conceive for at least six months without success
  • Couples using donor sperm or same-sex couples who wish to conceive
  • Couples experiencing male infertility, such as low sperm count or decreased sperm motility
  • Women who have ovulation problems, hormonal imbalances, or other fertility issues, for whom IUI may be recommended as a first-line treatment option.

What are the Requirements for IUI in Denver?

To receive IUI treatment at CCRM Fertility of Denver, patients must meet the following criteria:

  • Undergo a comprehensive evaluation to determine the underlying cause of infertility, which may include blood tests, semen analysis, and other diagnostic tests
  • Ovulate regularly, or be able to undergo ovulation induction
  • Have open and unblocked fallopian tubes
  • The male partner must have a sufficient sperm count and motility

IVF vs. IUI: Which Is Right for You?

Deciding between IUI and IVF is a personal choice—and the right option depends on your medical history, age, goals, and how quickly you want to move forward.

IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is often considered a first step in fertility treatment. It’s less invasive and more affordable, making it a common choice for:

  • Mild male factor infertility
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Single parents by choice
  • LGBTQ+ individuals and couples
  • Younger patients with no major reproductive concerns

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) involves more advanced technology and a higher level of control. It is often recommended if:

  • You’ve tried IUI without success
  • There are known conditions like endometriosis, low ovarian reserve, or blocked fallopian tubes
  • You’re considering genetic testing or sex selection
  • You want to freeze embryos for future use

While IUI may be a good starting point, IVF generally offers higher success rates per cycle. Our team at CCRM Fertility of Denver will help you compare your options based on clinical data, personal priorities, and financial considerations so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Insurance Coverage for IUI in Denver

If you’re considering IUI as part of your fertility care, Colorado’s updated insurance law may provide meaningful support. As of January 1, 2023, large group health plans issued or renewed in the state are required to cover the diagnosis and treatment of infertility, including procedures like intrauterine insemination (IUI) when deemed medically appropriate.

This coverage typically includes:

  • Initial fertility consultations and diagnostics
  • Monitoring appointments and ultrasounds
  • IUI procedures
  • Fertility medications associated with the treatment cycle

Coverage can vary by plan, and some limits may apply based on age, diagnosis, or number of attempts. Additionally, individuals using donor sperm may face out-of-pocket costs for sperm acquisition or storage, as those components are often not included in standard coverage.

At CCRM Fertility of Denver, we are here to help you understand your benefits and navigate the insurance process with ease. Our team will work with you to confirm eligibility, clarify costs, and support you through every step of your IUI journey.

What About LGBTQ+ and Single Patients Seeking IUI?

Insurance coverage can be especially complex for LGBTQ+ individuals seeking IUI or single parents by choice seeking IUI. Some plans may not recognize the need for fertility treatment unless there’s a defined infertility diagnosis based on heteronormative criteria (e.g., 12 months of unprotected intercourse without pregnancy).

Our team can help you navigate this with care, advocating for your access to fertility benefits and outlining financial options when coverage is limited.
