After undergoing surgery for stage 4 endometriosis, multiple egg retrievals, and a polyp removal, Emily K. welcomed a baby boy thanks to Dr. Sarah Hessler at CCRM Fertility of New Jersey.
What fertility treatments did you pursue?
My husband, Adam, and I pursued IVF using my eggs that were retrieved and his sperm.
What was your fertility diagnosis?
When did you start your journey?
2024
How did you discover you had infertility?
I discovered I had infertility after surgery to remove my endometriosis.
In 2024, I was diagnosed with endometriosis after a series of tests revealed two very large endometriomas on my ovaries. Not long after, one of the endometriomas ruptured, sending me into emergency surgery that lasted seven hours. It was a terrifying experience. During the operation, the surgeons worked to remove the endometriomas, stop the internal bleeding, and clear an extensive amount of adhesions throughout my abdominal cavity. Miraculously, they were able to save my ovaries!
After surgery, I was informed that getting pregnant naturally would likely be very difficult without any medical intervention. My fertility diagnosis is stage 4, deep infiltrating endometriosis. That’s when our IVF journey began.
At CCRM in Clark, NJ, I met the incredible Dr. Sarah Hessler. From the very beginning, Dr. Hessler and her team believed in me, even on the days when it was hard for me to believe in myself. IVF was not an easy road. There were multiple egg retrievals, a polyp removal, countless appointments, and emotional highs and lows along the way. But through it all, we kept going.
What brought you to CCRM?
The desire to start a family, and the incredible testimonials I read while searching for a
fertility clinic.
What was your treatment experience like? The highs? The lows?
The treatment process was challenging, both emotionally and physically. Always
wondering about what my results would be, or what my outcome would look like was
difficult. I tried to just take the experience one step at a time, and to focus on the
positives instead of the negatives. I learned how to celebrate each “win” throughout
my journey, no matter how big or small!
Eventually, after a transfer filled with hope and nervous anticipation, my husband and I received the greatest gift we could have ever imagined, our miracle baby, Hunter!
There were so many moments during this journey when I wondered if I would ever become a mother. It was truly a rollercoaster of emotions. But thanks to the unwavering support and care from the team at CCRM, my dream of becoming a mom became a reality! I will forever be grateful!
What gave you hope throughout the process?
Reading and hearing other patient’s success stories gave me hope throughout my own
journey. I found it to be inspiring and encouraging.
What advice would you give to others on their journey?
I would encourage others to celebrate their wins and to remain optimistic throughout
the process. IVF is tough, but we are tougher!
Tell us about your little one!
My son, Hunter Michael, was born on 2/16/2026 at 8lbs 11oz! He is the sweetest little
boy! I love looking at the photo of my embryo from my transfer. I can’t believe that
tiny little blastocyst is now my handsome baby boy.
