IVF with sex selection in Frisco, TX

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the most reliable fertility treatments. It is a multi-step procedure that assists with many of the stages of conception to significantly increase the chance of a healthy pregnancy.

During treatment, we stimulate the ovaries so that mature eggs can be retrieved and then fertilized in a laboratory setting. After successful fertilization, healthy embryos are transferred to the uterus.

At CCRM Fertility of Dallas-Fort Worth, we welcome patients who are interested in choosing the chromosomal sex of their child.

IVF allows for chromosomal sex selection (often referred to colloquially as gender selection) and allows potential parents to balance out their families as they see fit.

How does IVF sex selection work?

It is not uncommon for our patients to ask about the possibility of gender selection. Some feel strongly about the gender they would like their only child to be, while others are already parents and are interested in balancing out their family by having a child of the opposite sex. No matter the reason for sex selection, the outcome can be achieved by examining the chromosomes of an embryo.

Females have two X chromosomes, so a mother will always pass an X chromosome to her child. Males have both an X and Y chromosome, so sex depends on whether sperm delivers an X or Y chromosome. If we examine an embryo’s chromosomes before embryo transfer, which is possible through IVF and genetic screening, parents have the opportunity to select the sex of their child.

IVF costs and considerations in Frisco, TX

In-vitro fertilization (IVF) can be a costly medical procedure when all the factors are added together. The cost of IVF treatment can vary widely depending on the type and complexity of the treatment, as well as other factors such as location and insurance coverage.

On average, one round of IVF costs between $14,000 and $24,000. This cost does not include medications, tests, and procedures associated with the cycle. CCRM Fertility of Dallas-Fort Worth participates with numerous insurance and fertility benefit providers, and we also partner with financing providers and offer multi-cycle packages to help make treatment more affordable.

Does insurance cover IVF in Texas?

Texas law requires insurance companies to offer infertility coverage to group health plans—but employers are not required to include it. That means coverage for IVF may depend on your specific benefits package.

If your employer provides infertility coverage, you may qualify for IVF coverage if:
✔ You are the policyholder or the spouse of the policyholder
✔ Your eggs are being fertilized with your spouse’s sperm
✔ You have a documented infertility diagnosis of at least five continuous years, or infertility caused by:

  • Endometriosis
  • DES exposure
  • Blocked or removed fallopian tubes
  • Oligospermia (low sperm count)

✔ You’ve already attempted less costly covered treatments without success
✔ The IVF procedure is performed at a facility that meets ASRM and ACOG guidelines— which CCRM Fertility of Dallas-Fort Worth does.

What About fertility preservation services?

Texas law also requires coverage for fertility preservation when a patient is undergoing medically necessary cancer treatment (like chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery) that may impact fertility. This includes:

✔ Egg, sperm, or ovarian tissue collection and preservation

However, storage of eggs, sperm, or tissue is not included under this mandate.

Are there exceptions?

There are a few important exclusions to be aware of:

❌ Employers who self-insure are not required to offer infertility benefits
❌ Religious employers are exempt from covering infertility treatment
❌ Medicaid managed care plans are not required to cover fertility preservation
