IVF with Sex Selection in New York City, NY

Serving the Greater New York City Area

In vitro fertilization, or IVF, is one of the most reliable fertility treatments. It is a multi-step procedure that assists with many of the stages of conception to significantly increase the chance of a healthy pregnancy.

During treatment, we stimulate the ovaries so that mature eggs can be retrieved and then fertilized in a laboratory setting. After successful fertilization, healthy embryos are transferred to the uterus.

At CCRM Fertility of New York, patients are happy to have any viable embryo transferred, but some are interested in choosing the sex of their child.

IVF allows for chromosomal sex selection (often referred to colloquially as gender selection) and allows potential parents to balance out their families as they see fit.

How Does IVF Sex Selection Work?

It is not uncommon for our patients to ask about the possibility of gender selection. Some feel strongly about the gender they would like their only child to be, while others are already parents and are interested in balancing out their family by having a child of the opposite sex. No matter the reason for sex selection, the outcome can be achieved by examining the chromosomes of an embryo.

Females have two X chromosomes, so a mother will always pass an X chromosome to her child. Males have both an X and Y chromosome, so sex depends on whether sperm delivers an X or Y chromosome. If we examine an embryo’s chromosomes before embryo transfer, which is possible through IVF and genetic screening, parents have the opportunity to select the sex of their child.

Finding the right fertility specialist is not always an easy task when you are looking for a fertility clinic in New York City that can accommodate your needs. The providers at CCRM have a great deal of experience with different fertility issues and we feel confident that we can find a solution that will be best for you.

Cost of IVF Treatment in New York City, NY

In vitro fertilization (IVF) can become costly, especially when considering all related factors. The cost of IVF treatment can vary widely depending on the type and complexity of the treatment, as well as other factors such as location and insurance coverage.

On average, one round of IVF costs between $14,000 and $24,000. This cost does not include medications, tests, and procedures associated with the cycle. CCRM Fertility of New York participates with numerous insurance and fertility benefit providers, and we also partner with Future Family to offer financing options and offer multi-cycle packages to help make treatment more affordable.

Insurance Coverage for IVF with Sex Selection in New York City

Understanding how insurance applies to IVF with sex selection is an important part of planning your care. New York State requires large-group insurance plans to cover the diagnosis and treatment of infertility, including up to three IVF cycles for qualifying patients. These plans must also cover a broad range of diagnostic testing such as bloodwork, ultrasounds, hysterosalpingograms, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, semen analysis, and FDA-approved fertility medications. Coverage cannot be denied based on age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, or gender identity.

However, New York’s fertility mandate does not require insurance to cover elective genetic testing that is performed solely for sex selection. While the medically necessary components of IVF — such as ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization, and embryo transfer — may be covered if you meet your plan’s criteria for infertility, add-on procedures used for identifying embryo sex, including embryo biopsy and preimplantation genetic testing for sex selection, are typically considered out-of-pocket expenses. Patients with individual or small-group plans should also be aware that these plans are not required to include IVF coverage, and employers who self-insure are exempt from state mandates.

At CCRM Fertility of New York, our financial counselors will help you understand exactly what your plan includes. We review your benefits in detail, provide clear cost estimates, and walk you through financing options so you can pursue IVF with sex selection with confidence and clarity.
