Since fertility waits for no one, a growing number of women — including Rebel Wilson — are choosing to freeze their eggs.

Wilson, who celebrated her 40th birthday in March, opened up during an Instagram Live session on Tuesday about her decision to undergo the procedure.

“As all good career women out there should know, if that’s something that interests you, it’s a pretty good time to do it,” Wilson said. “Getting to 40s is kind of even leaving it a little too late. It’s better to do it a bit earlier if you can.”

According to Dr. Brian Levine, practice director of New York City fertility clinic CCRM, statistics show that the best time for a woman to freeze her eggs is between the ages of 32 and 35.

“After 35 there’s a decline in the quality and quantity of eggs available,” Levine told TODAY Parents. “With that said, I always advise patients, no matter how old they are, that they are the youngest the moment that we’re talking, and they’re just going to get older.”

Levine added that becoming pregnant depends on many variables including sperm quality.

“As a woman gets older, statistically, so does the potential sperm source,” Levine explained. “As a result, women need to collect more eggs as they get older, not just because of the risk of chromosomal abnormalities and miscarriages, but also because the egg has to accommodate for potentially substandard sperm.”

It’s safe to assume Wilson will never regret freezing her eggs. The actor noted that the process inspired her “Year of Health.”
